Research

I study user interactions with digital design tools. My work challenges the stereotypical view of designers in design computing by locating the “user” at the center of inquiry. My research proposes ways to improve the tools, processes, and course designs. Some of the important questions that I investigate are the following:

• What are design processes and cognitive behaviors of designers in digital design?

• How individual differences of users such as attitudes, experience and cognition may affect their interactions with digital design tools?

• What are students’ experiences with/perceptions of/opinions about/attitudes toward digital tools used in design education?

• How can the findings of the research on user – design media interaction be utilized to improve tools/processes/education?
